How SMTP sending quotas work

Each Cyberimpact SMTP plan includes a monthly sending quota — the maximum number of emails you can send during a billing period. This article explains how this quota is calculated, what happens when it is reached, and how to track your usage.

What it's used for

Understanding how quotas work allows you to:

How it works

Counting sends

The quota is calculated per recipient, not per message. Each recipient accepted by the SMTP server counts as one send toward your quota.

For example:

What counts toward your quota:

What does not count:

Insufficient quota during a send
When your quota is reached, your sends are blocked and your software receives an error message. Check the Activity tab to verify the status of your most recent sends.

Quota reset
The quota is automatically reset to zero at the start of each new billing period, which follows the same dates as your Cyberimpact email marketing plan. The renewal date is visible in the quota bar at the top of the SMTP section.

Quota alerts

Cyberimpact automatically sends you email alerts as you approach your limit:

Threshold reached Bar color Action
80% 🔵 Blue → Orange Alert email sent
90% 🟠 Orange Alert email sent
100% 🔴 Red Alert email sent and sends blocked

Alerts are sent to all account administrators, the primary contact, and the billing contact.

Note: thresholds are checked automatically at regular intervals, not in real time. If your usage crosses multiple thresholds quickly, you may receive several alerts at the same time.

How to track your usage

Your usage is visible directly in the SMTP section of your account. The progress bar is visible at the top of all pages in the SMTP section. It shows the number of emails sent during the current period compared to the limit of your plan.

Tips and tricks

My quota is reached, what should I do?
You can subscribe to a higher plan in the Pricing tab to increase your sending capacity and resume your sends.

I am receiving alerts but have not reached 100%
The alerts at 80% and 90% are preventive warnings. They give you time to act before your sends are blocked.

Can an alert be triggered twice for the same threshold?
Yes. If you upgrade your plan after crossing a threshold and then cross it again, the alert will be triggered again.
